Following the recent ExoMars launch presentation before the planned launch on March 14th, Mars proved to be difficult to image. However, ASM Member Alexei Pace had secured an image on March 13th – 28.5 hours before launch with Edge HD14 + QHYS111224C.
Quickly submitting his image, Alexei’s images was used at several conferences the following morning and also on “The Astronomer” April 2016 edition putting Malta on a world stage!
This illustrates the importance of sending observations abroad to appropriate institutions where further analyses are carried out to extract important data. Opportunities like this attract attention and recognition of all the good work that is taking place by local observers and may lead to further international contacts.
Give it a try to observe Mars in the coming weeks as it will surely be somewhat larger/clearer from when Alexei took this acclaimed shot!
