Event is rescheduled for the Saturday, 13th November.
Join us for an observation and imaging night. We are at the mercy of the weather so please be advised that at short notice we might have to postpone (again!) the event. Hopefully, this won’t be the case and we can meet again after many months.
For anyone interested in learning how to take pictures of the night sky we will be at hand to show you how. Apart from your smartphone, you will also require a small tripod and smartphone holder. But you may bring any equipment including telescopes to the event.
The event is free and open for all our members. The location will be communicated to our members via email closer to the date.
If you are not a member of the Astronomical Society of Malta and would like to become one, please visit https://www.maltastro.org/joinus.
Post-Event Summary Report
After an absence of almost two years, we finally held our first in-person event on Saturday, 13 November. Our last event for our members was in January 2020. A month or two later, the entire country went into lock down. Like other organisations, we had to shift all our events online (I know, it’s not the same).
We knew it would be a cloudy night for observation, but we decided to go ahead regardless. Our members were eager for these types of events to restart. And it felt great to be back outdoors, meeting and chatting to our members.
A few of our members turned up with their children. Some brought their amateur telescopes with them. We had our SkyWatcher 8″ Dobsonian telescope set up, and coffee and biscuits for our members. Usually, our events would start with an astronomy talk by a guest speaker followed by an observation session. Not today. This was a “welcome back” and a Q&A event for our members to ask any questions related to astronomy and telescopes.
In the end, it was a great night out. And despite the cloudy and misty night, we still managed to observe the gaseous planets Jupiter and Saturn. We loved every minute of it and so did our members and their children.
We can’t wait for our next event in December.
